Weight Loss Tablets in the UK: Orforglipron, the Wegovy Pill and Your Options

Weight loss tablets are now available in the UK, and they are changing how people approach weight management. At Didsbury Weight Loss Clinic in South Manchester, we offer two once-daily tablet options, Foundayo (orforglipron) and the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide), alongside the weekly injections Wegovy and Mounjaro. Prices start from £99 per month, including your in-person consultation and ongoing clinical oversight.

Are weight loss tablets available in the UK?

Yes. There are now two prescription weight loss tablets in the UK: orforglipron, sold as Foundayo, and oral semaglutide, sold as the Wegovy pill. Both are prescription-only medicines, which means they can only be supplied after a clinical assessment by a qualified prescriber. Be cautious of any website offering weight loss tablets without one.

At our Didsbury clinic, your assessment is face to face with our pharmacist. If a tablet is clinically appropriate for you, the first prescription can often be provided at the same appointment.

Orforglipron (Foundayo)

Foundayo is a once-daily tablet containing orforglipron. It works on the same appetite-regulating pathway as injectable treatments, has no food or water timing rules, and can be taken at any time of day. Prices at our clinic start at £99 per month. The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide)

The Wegovy pill contains the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection, semaglutide, in a once-daily tablet. It must be taken on an empty stomach after at least 8 hours of fasting, with no more than 120ml of water, and you must wait 30 minutes before eating or taking other oral medicines. What about Mounjaro tablets?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is not available as a tablet. It is a once-weekly injection, and there is no oral version. If you were hoping for a Mounjaro tablet, the closest alternatives are the two daily tablets above, which our pharmacist can discuss with you at your consultation. Mounjaro injections are also available at our clinic from £149 per month.

Tablets or injections: which is right for you?

• Tablets suit people who dislike needles and prefer a simple daily routine. Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, while the Wegovy pill must be taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of water.
• Injections are taken once a week rather than every day, which some people find easier to stick to.
• All four options work on appetite-regulating pathways and are combined with diet and activity changes.
• The right choice depends on your medical history, preferences and goals, which is why every patient starts with an in-person assessment at our Didsbury clinic.

Starting treatment at our Didsbury clinic

Your first step is an in-person consultation at our clinic on Wilmslow Road, Didsbury. The appointment takes around 20 to 30 minutes and covers your height, weight, BMI, medical history, current medicines and goals. Unlike online-only pharmacies, you speak to a real pharmacist who measures you in person and reviews your progress at follow-ups, by phone or in person.
